One possible version (应用文写作)
Dear Sir,
I’m more than pleased that our class English newspaper’s going to devote a special column to one of the two themes / that you’re going to start a special column in our class English newspaper about one of the two themes, “Fun in school” or “Guess who am I”. I’d like to share my ideas with you. (Background and purpose of writing)
I think the former is the better choice for the following reasons. First, “Fun in school” is a friendly and down-to-earth topic with a lot for us to write about. Second, we are now living a busy and stressful school life and what we need is something interesting and relaxing to liven things up. (Your choice and reasons)
I’m sure that if you follow my ideas, the class English newspaper will be more popular/will hold more appeal. (How you feel about your ideas)
第二节 (满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之成为一篇完整的短文。
My wife and l wanted to share our new home with family and friends by hosting a small gathering in the early summer. She had prepared lots of snacks, while my job was to have the backyard in order. There was plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There was just one thing I hadn’t counted on: my brother chose to bring his dog Toby, a 50-pound ball of fire. Though friendly, he could easily knock over my niece's small boys and my six-month-old granddaughter. So, when my brother showed up, I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside. My plan was working out just fine. Toby was using up his energy by running back and forth in the backyard and giving the kids plenty of room. Unexpectedly, after supper, the weather changed. It started to rain and everyone went indoors.
It was an awkward moment, I didn’t want Toby to be running around in the house, and my brother wasn't happy with driving home with a wet dog. Eventually, my brother decided to leave rather than force the issue. A few days passed, and I hadn’t heard anything from my brother. I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply came as a surprise-a shock, actually: “ Not a chance.” Clearly, he was unhappy over the way we had parted. After all, I had left him little choice. Well, he’ll get over it, I reasoned. Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother, but l resisted, thinking he should call first. However, my conscience kept bothering me. I tried to put myself in my brother's shoes. He was facing health issues, and his wife of thirty-five years had passed away a few months earlier. Toby was his constant companion, the one who kept him going.

With the biscuits my wife had made, l arrived at my brother's door.
One possible version(应用文写作)
I realized it was me(I) who was at fault. I had been primarily concerned about our own comfort and convenience rather than my brother’s needs and feelings. I had failed to see what he was going through and what Toby meant to him as well as treat him with basic respect and special consideration. It was a lack of care and understanding between us brothers that led to our awkward situation. For a moment, I felt a sudden pang of guilt about the way I had treated him. I decided to take my wife’s advice and mend fences with / make up with him. I swallowed my pride and phoned him. (Reflected on where I was wrong and why, how I felt and what I wanted to do)
With the biscuits my wife had made, l arrived at my brother’s door. After a few knocks, it was opened, not by my brother but by Toby, who wagged his tail wildly and greeted me with typical enthusiasm. Guilt flooded me in waves again at the thought of how I had treated him. Led by Toby, I tiptoed into my brother’s bedroom, where he was lying curled up in bed, with nobody but Toby keeping him company. My heart bled for him at the sight. Handing him the biscuits, I flashed him an apologetic smile. We shared my wife’s delicious biscuits and his anger slowly melted away. I learned the lesson the hard way that blood is thicker than water and family love comes first. (How Toby greeted me, how I felt about him and the situation I saw my brother was in, what I did to make up with him and what lesson I learned)
